Finding the right books for a child reading below grade level can be challenging. Children might struggle to connect with characters in books that feel too young, and the content may not be engaging. That's where high-lo (high-interest, low-readability) readers come in. These books are designed to capture the interest of older readers while being accessible to their reading level.

Benefits of High-Lo Readers

Engaging Content: High-lo readers are crafted to be exciting and relatable, often featuring characters and situations that appeal to older children.

Series Format: The high-lo readers I own are written as part of a series, which allows readers to follow character development over multiple books, just like they would with longer chapter books. This continuity can be particularly motivating as readers become invested in the characters' journeys and growth.

My Approach to High-Lo Readers

I have three sets of high-lo books for my students, each offering unique themes and characters.

Magic Belt Series: The Simple Plot

Set 1: The Magic Belt Series

- This set is for students who need more practice with consonant-vowel-consonant words and consonant blends.

High-lo readers are an excellent tool for helping children who read below grade level. By providing engaging, age-appropriate content, these books can motivate students to read more and improve their skills. With the right approach and resources, you can help your child develop a love for reading that will last a lifetime.
