🎥 Inside Today’s Video
In today’s video, you’ll see exactly how to give a reading passage assessment step-by-step.
Here’s what’s included:
📖 Part 1: How to administer a DIBELS-style reading passage assessment
👧 Part 2: A short clip of a child reading the passage aloud so you can see what to listen for
💻 Part 3: How to access UFLI’s free reading assessments
According to the word recognition assessment, the student was at a frustration level on first-grade words. I intentionally chose to show a harder passage for demonstration purposes — so you could see what it looks like to give a DIBELS-style assessment.
⚠️ Important note: I would not recommend giving a DIBELS passage at this level if your child or student is already showing frustration on first-grade words. In that case, a simpler passage or the UFLI assessments would be a better fit to gather accurate data without overwhelming the student.
✨ The goal is to collect meaningful information, not to test endurance. When students feel successful, we get a truer picture of what they can do — and where to support them next.
📅 Coming Monday: I’ll show you how to take all of this information — from phonics, word recognition, and reading passage assessments — and put it together to create a personalized reading plan tailored for your child or student.
