Blending lines are short lines of words or phrases created to help children practice blending sounds. The lines are often focused on a reading pattern like CVC words or CVCE words. Practicing reading the words this way enables them to read words with confidence. They connect learning a new phonics skill to reading complete sentences.

Why You'll Love Blending Lines

🌟Develops fluency

Consistent practice with word patterns helps students read fluently by training their brains to quickly blend sounds, enabling them to move beyond sounding out words.

📚Reinforces Phonics

Blending lines provide targeted practice for specific phonics rules (such as digraphs or vowel teams) while reinforcing previously learned skills.

🧠Makes it easier for children to think and learn.

By concentrating on just a few words, children can practice the skill and focus better on their current task without getting frustrated.

🚀 Provides a Stepping Stone

Blending lines are an essential bridge between mastering a new sound or pattern and applying it within a complete decodable book or text.

The blending lines I am currently using with my students are from Teachers Pay Teachers. I did not create this resource. Blending Lines: Phonics Based Fluency Practice by Susan Jones | TPT
